Hands On History: Abayomi Dolls

Primary tabs

Program Type:

Arts & Crafts, Workshop

Program Description

Body

Learn about the rich history of the African Diaspora in the Americas by making a Abayomi doll. These dolls are made from squares of fabric and the only skill you need to know is how to tie a basic knot. Children and teens ages 6 to 17 are invited to come in on Saturday, February 8 to pick up a craft kit during the hours of 10am to 5pm as long as supplies last. There will be limited numbers and we will not be able to hold kits. Adults picking up for children who are not present will be limited to 2 kits per adult. If we do run out, we will have instructions on how to make your own, which only requires small amounts of scrap fabric and yarn.

Everyone who makes a doll is invited back on Saturday, February 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 am for a doll show and tell! Check the calendar for more details about this drop in event.
